Epson Perfection 2400 Photo Scanner with built-in 35mm film strip adapter, CD-ROM with Epson TWAIN. PC and Mac compatible, the 2400 also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty on both parts and labor. The 2400 utilizes a white cold cathode fluorescent lamp and Epson's MatrixCCD line sensor, and consumes 17 W of power.I just don't want to spend it and end up with basically the same scanner. It's not that I can't aford the V500/V600. Given that the V500 and V600 spec are almost the same, if I do upgrade, I'll go the V500 route. I started looking at the V600 as the replacement to my 2400 but then found a v500 for $60 less.

Epson Perfection 2400 Photo Scanner TWAIN Driver for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP 32bit, Mac OS 8.6-9.2.2 and Mac OS X.For example, my previous Epson scanner was a 2450 and the software that shipped with that scanner was NOT nearly as good as the V700 Epson software. I prefer Epson's for everyday use (and it's the only ne that supports Print ICE on the V600) but I like Vuescan in that you can save the scan as a DNG raw file. There is one thing that VieScan can do that (as far as I know) the Epson Scanning software does not and that is to Scan from a File, however it is rare that I need to do that.My version of VueScan does not have the capability of (for example) loading 24 negatives (35 mm size) in the carrier, making Pre Scan Adjustments for EACH, then click to scan and the Epson Software will scan each of the Negatives, assign a file number, and save each to an individual assigned file name in the specified Folder. This allows the Scanning to be done completely without any type of Operator Intervention and saves me a lot of time. Also, the Pre Scan adjustments in the V700 Epson Scanning Software is very good and provides excellent results and with the ability to make pre scan settings for EACH negative (and NOT all the same pre settings). My VueScan requires me to be attending the scanner during ALL functions and does NOT provide any better results even after all the Operator attendance. This saves me at least half of the overall time required as compared to when using VueScan. If a person is scanning only one (or a few) negatives or slides, this may not be very important - but when scanning close to 60 Years of Negatives and slides, that is a significant saving in time and with just as good (or better) final results.Edit to add: Yes, the Majority comments will refer to preferring VueScan but they probably are making a comparison to some other software than The Epson Scanning software that is shipped with the V700 scanner and therefore are in the Majority of possible comparing to lesser quality software. Myself I think both have there place. From the posts onthis forem I think this puts you in the minority. I'll be paying $70 more for basically just that feature but it may save me time and hopefully will make a more quality scan.I found it interesting that you liked Epson's Scanning software over Vuescan. The two are virtually identical in their specs hoever, the V600 features ICE for Prints (which are going to be the majority of my scans). (Again this is a feature that the V500 does not have.) Remember that my main/initial use for the scanner is for prints and not films or negatives. I did try the ICE for Print feature and found that it worked as advertised. While I havn't had much time to play with it I do beleive that it is an incremental improvement in quality - as you'd expect. I do beleive that the upgrade that is available for the 2450 will give you the same level of functianlity as the software shipped with the V700 except for those features requiring the V700 hardware.I did end up exchanging the V500 for the V600. I do want to point out one thing concerning your statement: "my previous Epson scanner was a 2450 and the software that shipped with that scanner was NOT nearly as good as the V700 Epson software". Nba 2k emulator macAnd when I do scan films/negs the added scan resolution will definitly be needed.Darryl, good luck with your new V600 and thanks for the information regarding (evidently there is an upgrade scanning version for the 2450). Still for the ICE for Print, LED Light, spped increase, and build quality it was worth it to me. I learned that prints only have between 300ppi and 600ppi worth of resolution. Given that, I subsequently (subsequent to purchase) learned that the upgrade from the Epson Perfection2400 was probably not woth it for the increased scan reslolution increase. Also, since I haven't checked for it (after your post) do you know if the upgrade available on the Epson site.I am interested in this since I plan to give the Scanner to one of our Grand Son's that just recently started working with a RolleiFlex (spell ?) 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 film camera and wants to scan the negatives.I did end up exchanging the V500 for the V600.
